In 1995, Mclaren shocked the motor-racing fraternity when an F1 GTR took first place in the
Le Mans 24 Hours in it's inuagural race. For 1997 regulation changes meant significant
alterations had to be made to the car and Mclaren took the opportunity to lighten the car
and lengthen the tail for stability at speed, the result was a 2nd place overall for this
Gulf sponsored version, winning it's class.
